Propane Holds Its Value Even as Demand Softens
Amid crude-price volatility tied to Middle East shipping tensions, U.S. propane has stayed one of the better relative energy values, LP Gas magazine's Trader's Corner reports. Propane was priced around 68.9 cents per gallon in August versus $2.94 for gasoline, and on a Btu-equivalent basis it remains cheaper than crude, gasoline, and distillates. The market stays oversupplied domestically and is priced for export.

Line 5 Tunnel Clears Its Last Federal Hurdle
The Line 5 tunnel project under the Straits of Mackinac has cleared its final federal regulatory hurdle, Michigan News Source reports. Federal officials have also drawn up contingency plans for alternative propane supplies should Line 5 ever be shut down, though Enbridge and other pipeline supporters question whether substitutes could match the line's reliability.
AltaGas Climbs on LPG Export Growth, Midstream Buildout
AltaGas shares rose 0.89% as analysts pointed to the company's growing ability to move Canadian propane and butane into international markets. Kalkine Canada cited the company's midstream infrastructure buildout and utility segment growth as the main drivers behind the stock's outlook.
The U.S. electric grid consumes roughly 32 quadrillion Btu of electricity a year — nearly 3.65 trillion Btu every hour — and propane suppliers are positioning on-site generation as a hedge against that strain, LP Gas magazine reports.

Ukraine Strike Knocks Out Plant Producing 40% of Russia's LPG
Ukrainian forces struck Russia's ZapSibNeftekhim petrochemical plant in western Siberia, a facility that has normally supplied around 4,000 metric tons a day of propane-butane mix to the domestic market. In the strike's aftermath, no propane-butane volumes were offered for sale from the plant's Tobolsk loading point on the St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange, United24 Media reports.
Jones Act Waiver Extension Sends U.S. Propane Flowing to Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico imported about 809,000 barrels of propane from the U.S. after the Trump administration extended its Jones Act waiver, News Is My Business reports. The waiver has also opened new domestic routes, including propane shipments from Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, to Rhode Island — a route New England previously couldn't use because no Jones Act-compliant LPG tankers exist.
